In the 8th part of the Bible Study series from James, we will look into James 4:1-12. We will begin by digging into the root causes of Christian quarrels and conflicts.
This is evident in the first three verses. James 4:1-3 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
Submit to God: James 4 Bible Study
As James addresses the early church, his words resonate powerfully through the ages, speaking directly to the heart of human nature and the struggles within Christian communities. In a world where disagreements and disputes seem inevitable, James confronts the reality of fights over theology, leadership, relationships, and even the color of walls within the church. Yet, amidst these conflicts, James unveils a profound truth: the source of wars and fights among Christians is the internal battle of selfish desires warring within individuals. Often rooted in covetousness and selfish ambition, these desires manifest outwardly in strife and discord. James challenges believers to examine their hearts, recognizing the more profound spiritual implications of their actions and desires.
We will discover that there is only one thing to do, and that is to submit to God. As you reflect on James's teachings, consider the implications for your own life and community.
